Turkey Vultures

Last night we attended the Wisconsin Metro Audubon Society meeting at Wehr Nature Center.

Naturalist Lisa Hartman and Wildlife Ecologist Mike Mossman talked about turkey vultures.

Lisa Hartman brought her own live turkey vulture, rescued from a car accident in Michigan 13 years ago.

She said that being hit by vehicles while scavenging road kills was the number one cause of death for turkey vultures.

Mike and Lisa are featured in the following link:

Goldfish & turtle

Today, we walked by the 'Mike Weber' pond on Grange Ave. west of 108th Street.

( I have no idea what the legal designation of the detention pond is, but until I learn its real name, it will be the 'Mike Weber' pond in honor of the current village administrator).

We saw numerous schools of goldfish in the pond (dozens if not hundreds in total).

We also saw a small turtle, not sure what species but definitely not a snapping turtle.
